Here are just a few of the imaginative drawings our kids came up with after watching Beautiful Oops!
It was so much fun meeting all of the elementary classes this week! The students were delightful and excited to be in art class. We talked about John 1:1-3; "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made." Jesus is the First Artist, and He has created us in His image! What does that make us? We are artists, too!
As a way to begin thinking about the Growth Mindset, the younger grades viewed a reading of Beautiful Oops, by Barney Saltzberg. Then, the kids drew a funny shape or a scribble and thought about what it reminded them of. We drew dinosaurs, fishermen, funny faces, and lots of other things out of "splotches" and other weird shapes. This activity also served as a diagnostic of sorts, showing me a little bit about where the students are developmentally.
K4, K5, and 1st grade viewed this video.
2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades viewed this fun version of Beautiful Oops.
Students in the K4/K5 class were tickled to see the Chick-fil-A cow sitting just inside the door. They laughed with delight when they noticed it! As the First Priority club sponsor for my previous school, my name was drawn out of a hat at a student leadership conference and I won the Chick-fil-A prize! This was many years ago, and the cow is still hanging out in the art classroom!
