K3/K4

We used yellow and blue tempera paint to print a fun design with animals and leaves! The kids were fascinated to see the colors change to green. We had tons of fun!

We love to create patterns with shapes and we love to clean the tables!

In art class, we are always experimenting, creating, and trying new things.

Last Monday, K3 and K4 students created a beautiful flower for a gift on Grandparent's Day this Friday! We used markers to add color to a coffee filter, then sprayed it with water to see what would happen. The colors were amazing as they mixed and swirled! Today, students glued these flowers to a popsicle stick "stem."
We are continuing to practice social skills as well as develop fine motor skills in art class, and we are having lots of fun!

I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching our preschool groups so far this year! Our littlest artists have so much creativity and energy! It has been a delight to see the wonderful things they imagine when we meet on Monday mornings. As of today, we have met for a total of four 30 minute art classes.

So far, we have talked about lines, shapes, and colors, participating in Creativity Stations in order to experiment with a variety of art materials. We also have read several children's books about art; Little GreenRudy and Claude Splash Into Art, and Mouse Shapes. Students have been identifying and playing with shapes as they practice their fine motor skills. We have also been practicing social skills such as sharing.

In art class today, students chose from several Creativity Stations: painting with plain water ("magic paint!") on dark paper, Play-Dough, drawing with crayons, or playing with colored shapes.

Many preschool students are in what is formally known as the "Scribble Stage," but a few can draw simple recognizable images (Preschematic Stage.)  Fine motor skill development is so important, and art class gives preschool students the opportunity to strengthen their hand muscles as well as their creativity! As students explore a variety of art materials, they will learn to express their ideas in all kinds of ways. All year long we will explore basic lines, shapes, and colors as we use paints, play dough, texture sheets, and other hands on materials. I can't wait to see the amazing works of art our littlest students will create!
