HIGH SCHOOL INTRO. TO SCULPTURE & 3D DESIGN

Warren, grade 12, shows off his award winning paper mache sculpture!

I am delighted to have the opportunity to offer a class focusing on sculpture this semester! We will be using a large variety of materials including cardboard, paper, plaster, clay, wire, etc. as we learn both traditional and contemporary techniques.

Students will practice basic 3-dimensional design in creating low and high relief sculpture assemblages. We study an overview of art history, from the earliest cave paintings to modern sculptors such as Louise Nevelson and Robert Lang.

Also, we will learn all about visual communication; brainstorming personal adjectives and translating these to shapes, then to forms in sculpture. Students will also practice basic painting techniques and applications.

Here is the beginning of a giant Chinese dragon!

This hilarious imaginary disco lizard creature won first place in our sculpture category for the art show!

This will eventually be a snake!
