This word has normal typography, but has been incorporated into a picture background through color and value. The map serves to convey the idea better than the word by itself! It appears old, wrinkled, and stained, as if an explorer has just spread it out to study it.
A photographer, layout artist, graphic designer, typographer, and other artists probably worked together to design this magazine advertisement for the Discover credit card. It gets our attention through the creative use of the number "10," repeated in a variety of ways.
This advertisement was created with a digital design, on a computer. An investment firm, "Janus," hired an advertising agency to design this sophisticated piece. The image of a radar helps communicate to the investor that the company promises to "pinpoint" where they can make the most money by investing stocks and bonds.
Bellringer for August 22: Use your Chrome books to open Google classroom. Write a caption for this advertisement. How does it get the attention of the consumer? What is the "selling point?" What idea is the advertiser using to convince the consumer that this is the car they want to buy? How does the design of the lettering add to the idea being communicated? How do you think artists created the different parts of this image?
