THIS WEEK IN ART CLASS; THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT

Galations 5:22, 23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

For the last two weeks, K4 - 4th grade students have been talking about the fruit of the spirit in Art class. This scripture, along with John 15:5, has been something the Holy Spirit has brought to my mind since I was a child. Jesus said, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit. Apart from me you can do nothing." We can only bear the good fruits by walking with God - they are all from Him. Without Him, we can't do anything, but through Him, we can do all things!

In addition to creating paintings based on the image of fruit, we have also been viewing animated "5 Minute Family Devotionals" about kids who are learning what it means to bear good fruit. Whether learning to be patient and bear with each other, or deciding to do the right thing even when it doesn't make sense, God's way is the best way!

Some of the skills we have been practicing in class (1st-4th) are drawing from observation, using space techniques such as overlapping and placement, following step by step instructions, using only primary colors to mix all the other colors, and painting with the tip of the brush to "control" the paint.
