Students in K4-3rd grade completed their flower sculptures this week. Mrs. Nichols demonstrated how to fold the dyed coffee filters in half three times (into a pie shape), then cut out the petals. Students drew a zig-zag or curving line first, then carefully cut on the line to make flower petals. We sculpted the two flower forms, glued them together, and then added a popsicle stick stem. This was the first sculpture of the year, so Mrs. Nichols had activity centers set up so that there would be more opportunity to work one on one with students. The kids had the opportunity to experiment with Play-Dough, Legos, drawing, and frottage while waiting their turn to sculpt.
The kids were so excited to present these flowers to their grandparents Friday morning! They have been working very hard with Mrs. Erwin and their classroom teachers to prepare their songs and poems. I am very proud of our students!

The Grandparents Day Program was a success! The kids all did a fabulous job, as did Mrs. Erwin, Mrs. Killian, Mrs. Manston, Ms. McAvoy, Ms. Savell, and Ms. Crabtree. The PTF volunteers also set up a wonderful coffee bar for our guests, complete with doughnuts and other treats. Thank you so much, Mrs. Wharton, Mrs. Harrison, Mrs. King, and Mrs. Rigdon! The PTF even presented myself and Mrs. Erwin with a lovely bouquet of cut flowers! Thank you!
