LOWER SCHOOL; SEPT. 12-15

Kindergartener Ada sprays water on her designs.

We are getting ready for Grandparents' Day (September 22)! K4-3rd grade classes are preparing a hand-made flower sculpture to give to their grandparents on September 22. We added color to coffee filters by using markers and watercolor paints; the kids sprayed a mist of water onto their creations, blurring and blending the colors into beautiful swirls like a tie-dye shirt! Students will make a flower form with their coffee filters, gluing them to a popsicle stick stem during the next class period.

4th, 5th, and 6th grade students also used watercolor paints. We learned how to make things appear close and far away, designing an imaginary "landscape." We are in the process of painting these images with watercolors.

First grader Colton carefully dabs watercolor paint onto his coffee filter.

Next week, we will scrunch up the coffee filter designs into the form of a flower. Popsicle sticks will serve as stems, and each child will give the gift of a beautiful art piece to their grandparents!
