DISTANCE LEARNING WEEK ONE: OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Here is a sketch of my cockatiels: I took a photo of them one day after giving them a seed treat and then looked at the picture to do my drawing. I love to learn about and draw animals - they are fascinating!

Dear Students and Parents,

I miss you all so much and I hope you have been making the most of your time at home! Our family has been planting a garden, walking, cooking, and baking up some tasty treats. (My 5th grade son, Peter, has even been working on a few stop-motion animation movie clips with Lego figures...) Also, we have thoroughly enjoyed all of the online zookeeper presentations, especially the Home Safari from the Cincinnati Zoo (link takes you to their Facebook page). These are terrific for drawing animals - just pause the video and draw Fiona the hippo, the giraffe eating lettuce, the porcupine, or even the sloth! It is easy to see how this scripture holds true when you watch these videos: "You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet. All flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!" Psalm 8:6-9

I am very interested to see what kind of artwork you have been dreaming up at home! We are all creative artists - that creativity just comes out in different ways. Do you cook, write, draw, sing, or dance? Send me a picture or note via email to let me know what kind of artwork you have been creating and I will post these photos here on the art classroom blog! (annanichols@hcachristian.org) We may even post some on the school Facebook/Instagram pages...

Remember, this week the assignment is optional. Next Monday I will send another email with a fun activity you can do at home, then send in a photo of your art!
